Thank you for joining me on The Investing for Freedom Podcast. Today, I’m going to just share something with you that I’ve been thinking about lately. I found myself at dinner the other night with an amazing group of friends, just sitting back, having a good time, and I was looking around and I just really realized how grateful I am and how many awesome relationships I have in my life. And as we were talking through that, that night you know, we were having some different conversations about different areas of life and business and environment and why we do what we do.
And I’ve been saying this for a while, but there’s, I think we have to become who finders, you know, Dan Sullivan has this statement that he says all the time, and I’ve shared this with you guys so many times, but he constantly says the question is who not how, and a lot of times we spend, you know, time and energy on how, like, how are we going to get this done? How am I going to get that done? How can I accomplish everything? And the real question is it’s who, we need to be talking about, who we need to find in our life. And I was having this conversation at dinner the other night, and I said, you know, we need to become who finders. And it really, it kind of like, I guess, funneled me into this thought that I’ve been thinking the last few days that I’m going to share with you guys. And there’s a lot of conversations out there about, you know, your why and why you do what you do, and what’s your big mission and what your big purpose is and all this stuff. And really at the end of the day, on the other side of all of those conversations, which are important is a who.
And so for me, even doing this podcast, investing for freedom, I’ve been asked, you know, many times, like, why are you doing this? And you know, how are you monetizing it? And what are all these, you know, what are you doing? And the reality at the end of the day is, yeah, I do have a plan and there’s other things that I’m trying to accomplish in life and everything else. But the reality is, it’s add value, add value, add value, add value, add value. I love the Zig Ziglar quote. You can have everything you want in life, if you just help enough other people get what they want. And so on the other side of everything you need is a who, we need to become, who finders in life.
And when you really start thinking about your, why, your purpose, your mission, or anything else, it’s really simple guys. It comes down to one thing and it’s all people. There’s this big question that we’re always asking about, you know, what’s your purpose in life. And I can almost guarantee you without fail. If you really just get honest and open, it’s really about relationships and people. I don’t really have an outcome for this episode today. I don’t really have like a, you know, a strategic end or even, you know, anything that I specifically want you to like accomplish or gather takeaway or anything other than, I just really want you thinking about the who’s that are in your life. It’s kind of funny, when I said the who’s, I’m thinking of, you know the Grinch and Whoville and who are the who’s in your life? What are you really doing this for? And really like, when we talk about the investing for freedom formula, like, what do you really want? Why do you want it? When you ask those two questions, what do you really want? Yeah, there’s a lot of things around, you know, we want health, and we want nice things, and we want to be able to travel and we want, you know, to have a ranch or we want to have a condo in the city or whatever, but why do we want those things? And let me ask you this. Like, if you had a nice 200 acre ranch, which by the way, there is a ranch on my bucket list.
If I had a nice 200-acre ranch and I was alone with nobody to share it, would I be happy? There’s probably a who on the other side of that. Like, I want that ranch so that my family can be there. Kara and I can go relax. My children can come home. I can see my grandchildren there. I can leave it to the next generation. I can have friends over, I can employ people. I can help them have a great living. On the other side of everything we want is a who. And so it just, I just want, you know, to really share that from my heart today, because I really think that a lot of times, we get busy in life and everything else. And, you know, we go to work, we wake up at seven in the morning and we get off at five and we just go through our day and then Friday comes around and we’re so excited. Well, why are we excited? We’re excited because we get to spend the weekend with our friends, or we get to go hiking or do whatever it is that we want. And really, it’s just life so much easier. And I think sometimes we get on these treadmills where, you know, we’ve built all these things and you know, the more we acquire, the more it acquires us and forces us to have to work and everything else. And you need to flip that on its head. You need to completely turn the way you think about it, because the reality at the end of the day is you can always gain more. You can always earn more. You can always acquire more, but the reality at the end of the day, there’s a who on the other side of everything you’re doing. And so what do you really want and why do you want it.
Step back and ask yourself those questions and there’s probably a bunch of who’s associated with that and make sure that you don’t lose sight of them along the way. I hear this excuse all the time, but there’s so many guys and even women that I talked to along the way that are like, you know, well, I have to do this, I’m doing it for my family. You know, someday my family is going to thank me that I did it. I don’t think that’s true. I don’t think that’s true at all. I think you know, what we really want is each other’s time and I think that’s all that matters. So I’m going to leave you with that. I think on the other side of everything we’re working for is a who. And so just really leaning into that question, what do you really want and why do you want it? And then we talk through the next parts, what are you going to do to get it, measure results and adjust, and the what are you going to do to get it, you’ve got to be really careful with, because that’s where we get tied up and lost. And we lose sight of like what we really wanted and why we wanted it because we get so focused on the, how we’re going to get it. And then pretty soon we wake up 10 years later and we’re so deep in the middle of this, how we’re going to get it, that we didn’t measure the results. And we didn’t most importantly adjust along the way to circle back to what it was that we actually really wanted and why we wanted it.
So that’s why that little freedom formula, that little five-part formula is so important to just continuously ask your question and check in with yourself. What do you really want? Why do you want it? What are you going to do to get it, measure results at any time it’s working or any time it changes, just adjust. So hope that helps on the other side of everything I think you want and are doing, there’s probably some who’s associated. So go ahead and DM me, or hit me up on Instagram at themikeayala and just maybe tag some of your whos are. Just tell me about it.
